A Memorial Day Weekend Guide for Myrtle Beach

It’s easy to see why many travelers love Myrtle Beach for Memorial Day weekend. It’s the unofficial start to summer beach season, the weather is idyllic, and so much fun is happening. From patriotic celebrations to relaxing times away from the grind, you’ll find it on the Grand Strand.

MBResorts make the perfect home base for Memorial Day. Here’s our guide to a holiday weekend in Myrtle Beach.

The Beach

A good dose of sunshine is what you need after a long winter. Many people have this idea, meaning Myrtle Beach will be a bit crowded. Here are tips on how to enjoy your time on the shore anyway.

GO EARLY

You’ll find fewer people on the beach at sunrise and after. Also, resorts check out mid-morning and check in mid-afternoon. That time between can also result in less traffic. Put on sunscreen first!

TAKE PHOTOS ON THE BOARDWALK

In this case, we don’t mean the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk (although that’s awesome). Find the wooden walkway from your resort to the beach. When no one is coming from the other direction, get your shots!

BRING OR RENT AN UMBRELLA

They can be big and cumbersome, but worth the haul. The sun can be relentless for extended periods of time. A wide umbrella that can give you and your family respite from fun in the sun will make for a better day.

Celebrations

Many visitors throw their own parties for Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach. But there are plenty of options to join in the fun up and down the Grand Strand. Here are some ideas.

BLACK PEARL CULTURAL HERITAGE AND BIKE FESTIVAL

It’s also known as Atlantic Beach Bike Fest or Black Bike Week. It includes entertainment, live music, meet-and-greets, parties, and more. It all takes place May 26-29 in North Myrtle and Atlantic Beach.

10TH ANNUAL BROOKGREEN GARDENS MEMORIAL DAY 5K

Head to Murrells Inlet for a run on the scenic grounds of this historic site. The 10th Annual Brookgreen Gardens Memorial Day 5K winds through this popular attraction. Participants get a pass to visit again on another date.

SURFSIDE BEACH MEMORIAL DAY GOLF CART PARADE

Red, white, and blue rule the day. The Surfside Beach Memorial Day Golf Cart Parade is a tradition. Show your American pride and remember the reason for the weekend! The festivities start at 10 a.m. Call (843) 913-6359 for details.
