Why Is Spring a Good Time to Visit Myrtle Beach?

Your desire to hit the beach doesn’t have to wait until summer.

Spring is the prime time for a coastal getaway for many reasons. After a long, brutal winter in many areas, dreams of beach life begin to take over. Why wait until summer heats up to escape?

Here are reasons a spring vacation to the Grand Strand is in order.

1. Fewer Crowds

If you’ve been on the tail end of a long line, you know the sinking feeling. In Myrtle Beach, much travel doesn’t heat up until Memorial Day weekend. If you visit earlier, you’ll encounter smaller crowds and less stress.

ADVICE: Choose luggage that is versatile and lightweight. A backpack and a duffel are all you need. Travel light and have a good time!

2. GREAT Weather

As winter turns to summer, spring offers the best of both worlds. Warm in the sun by day, chilly by night. Pack jeans and a hoodie for a late-night walk on the boardwalk or the beach.

ADVICE: Pack a bathing suit. Spring might not be the right time to get in the ocean, but many Brittain Hotels and Resorts have indoor pools and hot tubs!

3. There Are Lots of Things to Do Outdoors

You don’t have to get too exotic (although doesn’t parasailing look fun?). But getting on the water in a kayak or boat, to surf or surf-fishing, is the perfect time of year. Or you can relax and make sandcastles with the kids.

ADVICE: Spring is a great time for a nice beach read. Bring a paperback or two or load a few books on your kindle. Bring a comfy beach chair! You could even go for a stroll along the boardwalk!

4. There Is Something for All Ages

A beach trip can mean “regular” things like seeing a movie together, in a theater, or in your suite. The beach offers a huge array of options. Beachy things like hunting sharks’ teeth are fun, but so is shopping at the outlets.

ADVICE: Choose dates that don’t coincide with college spring breaks. Unless you’re looking for all-nighters with noisy co-eds.

5. Fantastic Festivals

Reduce the times you don’t have something to look forward to. Schedule your visit during cool spring festivals, such as:

  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival (March 11): It’ll proceed down Main Street in North Myrtle Beach. Stick around for live music, Irish dancing, food, crafts, and more at the end.
  • Can-Am Days (March 11-16): We The North becomes We Down South every spring. Myrtle Beach celebrates Canadian visitors with a full slate of activities.
  • Myrtle Beach Food Truck Festival (March 31 – April 2): Head to Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place and descend on dozens of food trucks, live music, and other merchants.
