Where to Stay in Myrtle Beach Without Renting a Car

You do not need to rent a car to have a great Myrtle Beach vacation. The key is choosing a resort where the beach, dining, entertainment, and everyday vacation essentials are either onsite, within walking distance, or easy to reach without driving yourself.

Some Myrtle Beach resorts put restaurants and nightlife right outside the door. Others sit directly on the Boardwalk or offer so many pools, dining options, and activities that you barely need to leave at all. If you are wondering where to stay in Myrtle Beach without a car, these four MBResorts properties make it especially easy.

Courtyard & SpringHill Suites by Marriott Myrtle Beach Oceanfront

Best for: Walking to restaurants, drinks, and nightlife

Courtyard by Marriott Myrtle Beach Oceanfront and SpringHill Suites by Marriott Myrtle Beach Oceanfront are among the strongest choices for travelers who want to park the car, skip the rental counter, and have plenty around them.

The connected oceanfront hotels offer two different accommodation styles. Courtyard features traditional rooms and suites, including oceanfront options with private balconies, while SpringHill Suites offers all-suite accommodations with extra living space and sofa beds. SpringHill guests also receive complimentary hot breakfast and coffee.

Courtyard & SpringHill Suites by Marriott Building Day time street view

Right onsite, The Bistro serves food, cocktails, and Starbucks beverages, and a mini market makes it easy to grab snacks or vacation essentials. Guests also have access to the beach, an oceanfront pool, a lazy river, and a fitness center.

The real car-free advantage is what surrounds you. The hotels sit at 21st Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, where several restaurants and nightlife options are only a short walk away. Strong Waters Craft Cocktails and Kitchen is right across the street with craft cocktails, Southern-inspired food, and live music. A little farther along 21st Avenue, Dirty Don’s Oyster Bar & Grill offers seafood, drinks, and live music in a casual beach-bar setting. Soho Steak & Seafood Sushi Bar is also on 21st Avenue, with sushi, steak, seafood, cocktails, an open-air rooftop lounge, live music, and nightlife.

Add the beach directly outside your hotel, and you can build several days around the immediate neighborhood without needing a rental car.

Why it works without a car: Oceanfront amenities, onsite dining and coffee, plus restaurants, cocktails, live music, and nightlife within a few blocks.

Bay View Resort

Best for: A walkable Myrtle Beach Boardwalk vacation

For pure walkability, Bay View Resort Myrtle Beach is hard to beat.

The resort sits directly on the 1.2-mile Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, giving guests pedestrian access to restaurants, shopping, attractions, entertainment, the SkyWheel, piers, and the beach. You can walk out of the resort and immediately start exploring downtown Myrtle Beach.

Bay View also works well for different types of travelers, with accommodations ranging from smaller rooms to one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom condos. Private balconies and oceanfront, ocean-view, and city-view options are available.

Family Boardwalk Beach 005

When you want to stay put, Bay View still gives you plenty to do. Guests can enjoy an indoor pool and lazy river, a kiddie pool, an outdoor pool and spa, a hot tub, an oceanfront tanning lawn, a fire pit, giant chess and checkers, shuffleboard, a fitness room, and direct beach access.

An onsite Starbucks handles morning coffee, while Boozy Buoy Oceanfront Pool Bar adds seasonal drinks and casual poolside fare.

Then the Boardwalk takes over. Walk to restaurants, grab ice cream, ride the SkyWheel, visit an arcade, browse souvenir shops, stop at a pier, or head out for drinks without worrying about who has to drive back.

Why it works without a car: The Boardwalk, beach, restaurants, attractions, shopping, and entertainment are literally outside the resort.

North Beach Resort & Villas

Best for: A resort getaway with shuttle access to Barefoot Landing

A car-free vacation looks a little different at North Beach Resort & Villas. Instead of relying primarily on walkability, this North Myrtle Beach resort gives guests enough onsite to build an entire vacation around the property.

Accommodations range from oceanfront tower condos to villas, cottages, townhomes, and larger vacation homes. Many include full kitchens, living areas, and laundry, which makes it easy to stock the room and settle in for a longer stay.

Around the resort, guests can enjoy expansive pools, a lazy river, hot tubs, beach access, Cinzia Spa, Beach Fit fitness center, and seasonal poolside amenities. Dining is covered too with plenty of options onsite including a swim-up pool bar and 21 Main.

North Beach also offers an onsite shuttle that helps guests move around the resort, including the towers, villas, Plantation House, dining, and pool areas. During the summer season, the resort’s current guide says the shuttle also travels to Barefoot Landing, opening up even more restaurants, shopping, attractions, and entertainment without requiring you to drive. That makes North Beach especially appealing if your ideal vacation is mostly resort time with one or two easy outings built in.

Why it works without a car: You can eat, swim, visit the spa, enjoy the beach, and move around the large resort by shuttle, with seasonal shuttle service adding access to Barefoot Landing.

Compass Cove Oceanfront Resort

Best for: Staying at the resort and barely needing to go anywhere

At Compass Cove Myrtle Beach Resort, the easiest way to vacation without a rental car might be simply not leaving very often.

Compass Cove recently completed a $25+ million renovation and offers traditional rooms as well as larger condo-style accommodations, including options with kitchens and additional living space. The oceanfront setting puts the beach only steps away.

Then there are the 23 water features. Guests have access to four outdoor pools, two indoor pools, three lazy rivers, five kiddie pools, two waterslides, and seven hot tubs. There is also a game room, shuffleboard, giant chess and checkers, fire pits, a fitness center, gift shop, laundry facilities, and outdoor grills.

You do not have to leave for meals either. Start the day with the breakfast buffet at Compass Rose or grab coffee at Compass Joe. Later, head to Crow’s Nest Restaurant for casual food and drinks or stop at the Tiki Hut while you are spending the day around the pool deck.

Between the beach, pools, waterslides, dining, coffee, games, and resort conveniences, Compass Cove is a particularly good choice for families who would rather build their vacation around one oceanfront property than constantly travel around town.

If you do want to venture out for a specific attraction or dinner, you can use a rideshare for that one trip rather than paying for a rental car for your entire vacation.

Why it works without a car: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee, beach access, pools, waterslides, games, and everyday resort essentials are all right there.

Tips for Visiting Myrtle Beach Without a Rental Car

A car-free Myrtle Beach vacation is easiest when you plan around your resort’s location.

Choose walkability if you like exploring. Bay View and the Courtyard/SpringHill area put restaurants and entertainment within walking distance.

Choose resort amenities if you want to relax. Compass Cove makes it easy to spend most of the trip at the beach, in the pools, at the restaurants, and in your room.

Use shuttles where available. North Beach’s resort shuttle makes it easy to get around the large property, with seasonal service to Barefoot Landing.

Use rideshare strategically. You may still want to visit Broadway at the Beach, The Market Common, a show, or another attraction farther away. Paying for an occasional rideshare can still be easier and less expensive than renting and parking a car for the entire trip.
