Every year, thousands of golfers from around the world travel to the Grand Strand for one of the biggest and most exciting amateur golf tournaments in the country, the Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship. Known simply as the “World Am,” the event combines competitive golf, unforgettable entertainment, and the unmatched golf culture of Myrtle Beach into one incredible week.
The tournament welcomes golfers of all ages and skill levels, with players grouped into flights based on age, gender, and handicap to ensure a fair and competitive experience for everyone. More than 3,000 participants compete across dozens of golf courses throughout the Grand Strand during the multi-day event, making it one of the largest amateur golf tournaments in the world.
Tournament Week officially begins with player check-in on August 29th and 30th at the PGA TOUR Superstore, located across from Broadway at the Beach. Check-in hours run from 9 AM – 7 PM on August 29th and 9 AM – 5 PM on August 30th. Players will also enjoy the World Am Welcome Party on August 30th from 6 – 9 PM.
Tournament rounds take place August 31st through September 3rd across more than 50 host courses throughout the Golf Capital of the World, with daily tee times beginning between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM. An 8:30 AM shotgun start will be used for tournament rounds played at Wild Wing, Myrtlewood-Palmetto, Barefoot-Fazio/Norman, and Lockwood Folly due to course design.
In addition to tournament play, participants enjoy nightly access to the famous “World’s Largest 19th Hole,” an event featuring food, drinks, live entertainment, golf vendors, contests, and social events that have become a major highlight of the week. The World Am is about much more than golf. It’s about meeting fellow golfers, making memories, and experiencing everything Myrtle Beach has to offer.
The tournament concludes on September 4th with the Flight Winner’s Playoff, featuring tee times from 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM. All flight winners and ties, along with the top five overall players, advance to the championship round for the opportunity to be crowned World Champion.
