5 Happening Highlights From the Myrtle Beach Area’s Spring Events Calendar

As seasoned Grand Strand vacationers know, any time of year is a great time to visit the Myrtle Beach area. But for many travelers, the coastal allure of the Grand Strand grows even greater as winter makes its transition into spring. The weather is mild, striking a perfect balance between winter’s coolness and summer’s heat. At the area’s long list of family-friendly attractions, the crowds are much lighter than during the peak summer tourism season. And like the temperatures, the area’s events calendar begins to heat up during the springtime.

Looking to level up your spring beach vacation by timing it to coincide with an exciting area event? Consider these five compelling reasons from the Myrtle Beach area events calendar to add a Grand Strand getaway to your spring plans:

SOS Spring Safari

Set for April 13-23 in 2023, the Society of Shaggers Spring Safari sees thousands of dancing enthusiasts converge on the Grand Strand to celebrate beach music and a popular dance that originated in the area — the Carolina Shag. The activities on tap during the week-plus celebration include live music, tea parties, dance lessons, and of course, plenty of shag dancing. On the event’s final Saturday (which lands on April 22 this year), the party fills the streets of North Myrtle Beach during the annual celebration’s float-filled parade.

Ground Zero Dragon Boat Festival

Set to be held on Saturday, April 29, at Grand Park at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach, this 15th annual event sees 20-person paddling teams (each accompanied by an in-boat drummer) take to the waters of Grand Lake to race long, slender dragon boats. Those who record the fastest times can win awards and prizes. Meanwhile, in addition to enjoying the on-the-water action, event spectators can take in an array of other fun activities, including a drummer costume contest, a Family Fun Zone, a live DJ, other entertainment, and food and drink vendors.

Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2023 – Spring Rally

Motorcycle enthusiasts will want to put May 12-21 on their calendars. That’s when bikers from all over the region roll into the Myrtle Beach area for bike shows, bike and gear vendors, cruising tours to Charleston, SC, and Wilmington, NC, and lots more octane-fueled fun.

World Famous Blue Crab Festival

Held on the historic waterfront in Little River, SC, each May, the World Famous Blue Crab Festival is set for May 20 and 21 in 2023. Highlights of the event’s 41st annual edition include a bevy of options for enjoying fresh-caught Southern seafood (along with plenty of tasty festival-food options), live beach music, arts and crafts vendors, and soothing views of the scenic Intracoastal Waterway.

Carolina Country Music Fest

Back again in 2023 and set for June 8-11 this year, the Carolina Country Music Fest will bring more than 40 of country music’s hottest acts to the Myrtle Beach oceanfront for four days of live performances and good times. This year’s headlining artists include huge names like Morgan Wallen, Miranda Lambert, and Brooks & Dunn. In addition to the festival grounds’ five music stages, other on-site attractions include a zip line, a pair of VIP areas, concessions areas, merchandise booths and more.
